Wal-Mart Overlooks Hiding the Consequences of Supply and Demand
ABC News has run a story about a recent scandal over Wal-Mart pricing the black version of the Ballerina Theresa doll less than the white version:
A Wal-Mart spokeswoman said that the doll was priced less because of the “chain’s efforts to clear shelf space for its new spring inventory.”
I don’t know about that. I would think they were selling more of the white dolls, and so they bumped the prices up. Either that or they were selling less of the black dolls so they cut the prices on them.
Either way, this shows some of the problems that can arise when a store becomes too large. I wouldn’t expect to see this mistake at a small store.
